Moseley Misfits 4th Birthday

What an amazing milestone! Despite the challenges that have arisen over the last few years (the pandemic, inflation, several prime ministers, the Queen dying, fuel shortages…) Moseley Misfits and Misfits Music as a whole is still running strong!

We’ve hit several big goals this year:

We’ve seen some fantastic growth in the group. It’s been very encouraging to see a range of new people come through our doors to give Moseley Misfits a try and decide to stay. we now have on average 18-20 regular members come along to every session, whether online or in person. Along with this, It’s been great to have a range of new instruments join our ranks. Our low instrument sections have grown, with the inclusion of several trombones, cello and tenor sax. Beefy!

We commissioned our first piece for the group from Millicent James as part of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. This was our first project with BCMG and we hope to do another in the future.

We’ve also been working with one of previous interns James Mizen to produce more arrangements for The Moseley Misfits. It’s been good working with James, as he has produced some excellent arrangements but has also allowed Reuben more time to focus on other jobs for the Misfits like marketing and the Website.

We’ve undertaken a really wide range of music over this year, our hardest piece by far being The overture to Candide. Reuben takes particular pride in avoiding concert band favourites or Classic FM repeats and the various styles and genres we’ve worked through have been really fun.

We had our first installation at the Moseley Light Trail. We’ve been working with sculptor, Trev to create a visual piece that was included as part of the Moseley Light Trail. We had a couple of workshops where members put their ideas together and Trev has interpreted some these ideas into a wonderful piece of art.

These are a few of the years highlights but we are sure there are many more however the main take away from this year is that Moseley Misfits has continued to bring joy to it’s members but also to us (Rob and Reuben). We have many new exciting plans for next year, so come and join us to make music whilst having fun!
