What is the
Virtual Orchestra?
Our Virtual Orchestra provides a fun opportunity for people (Adults 18+) looking to play their instrument in an orchestral context from their home. We’ve provided this service as part of our Moseley Misfits group since the Covid-19 Pandemic, allowing those who wish to partake in these sessions to rehearse at home then join the main group for in-person concerts and events should they wish to join.
We use zoom to host these sessions, so participants will require an account. For our purposes, you only need a free account. Further info can be found here.
Who are the
Moseley Misfits?
The Moseley Misfits is a orchestral group with a difference. Rather than a traditional layout where instruments are placed in sections, our set up is by ability. This allows any instrumentalist between grades 1-8 to play within the same ensemble. We play a range of music from different genres and eras, (like rock, pop, film, classical…) whilst organising performances, social events and other fun activities that all members are welcome to join in if they wish.
Members of this group read music notation or lead sheets. If you prefer chord symbols, check out
our Rock Collective Groups.
How much does it
cost to take part?
Your first session is Free! After that, we ask participants to pay our standard session rates.
Either:
Reduced £5.50 per week
Normal £8.50 per week
Pay it Forward £10.50+ per week
Or sign up to Misfits Music Membership where you can save money by paying monthly.
When and how
do we meet?
The Virtual Orchestra, meets online via Zoom during west-midlands School Term Times on Tuesdays from 7.15pm - 8.45pm. Once registered, a link is emailed to you every week. Simply log in, join the session and we’ll deal with the rest.

The Moseley Misfits sessions are led by Reuben and Rob. Founders of Misfits Music, the two studied composition at Birmingham Conservatoire graduating in 2015. Rob then went on to study a masters in composition at The Royal Conservatory of The Hague whilst Reuben worked a professional musician and photographer.
Are there auditions or entry requirements?
No! We don’t audition for this group, however this group is aimed at those with at least basic skills on an instrument, and can read some music notation.
We provide musical parts that suit those from around Grade 1 - Grade 8 ability on their instruments, and you can choose an easier, or more difficult part as you prefer.
Become a Misfits Music Member and join our Membership Programme!
