About The Misfits Music Foundation
Misfits Music Foundation, known as Misfits Music Institute day-to-day was founded by Rob Jones and Reuben Penny in 2018 to bring the power of group music making to people in Birmingham and The Black Country. We provide open and non-judgmental spaces for people to get together and improve their wellbeing through music. Our organisation now employs a group of freelancer music leaders, has 4 staff members and we have a dedicated board of 6 Trustees.
Our Impact And Projects
We currently run a variety of music projects and for adults, older adults and adults with Learning Disabilities across Birmingham and Sandwell. Our sessions provide an outlet for adults to get creative and get involved with their community. We focus on the power of music to bring people together, forge new connections and improve wellbeing in meaningful ways.

Information about the Opportunity
We are looking for someone with a business background to join our Board as a Trustee. You might be a Senior Staff member in a large organisation, an business owner or founder, or someone with corporate experience. As part of this role you’ll take a key place as at our Quarterly Trustee Meetings, overseeing operations of our charity and ensuring we meet our legal requirements e.g. reporting to The Charity Commission and Safeguarding Vulnerable People.
Our Trustees are Non-Executive, so they don’t get involved in the day-to-day running of our charity. They work closely with our Artistic Director and Music Director to oversee operations, and formulate the organisation’s strategic direction. Acting as direct line managers to our Artistic and Music Directors, Trustees receive detailed updates about the ongoing operations of the charity and feed back into these as required.
We are looking especially for someone with a business background who can help us in our mission to become more financially sustainable and less reliant on grant funding. We are exploring many new income streams and financial strategies to ensure our work can continue in the long term. This is why we need your help!
If you have an interest in music (any genre!) that would be advantageous, but no musical background is required for this role. You also do not need any previous experience of being a Trustee, we will teach you everything you need to know.
The Application Process
Initially please contact our Artistic Director Rob Jones:

to set up an informal conversation about becoming a Trustee.
This will be followed up by a conversation with our Chair or Vice-Chair who can explain more about the role of a Trustee in our charity.
