A Fun, Accessible Way To Experience A Live Orchestra

Really entertaining and it’s good to have a place where people with Autism can go and take part in live music

What Is The Big Show?

A specially designed interactive show for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, and their carers.

Join Megan & Jim, the Music Seekers, for an accessible concert exploring a range of music in an accessible and welcoming setting specially designed for you! Alongside the music, there will be lots of multi-sensory games and activities to take part in – expect some dancing, signing, noise making, and plenty of fun props!

This Year’s Show

In this year’s show, Jim goes on another adventure, meeting a variety of zany characters, each with a different job. The Music Seekers and our 25+ piece community orchestra will guide us as we explore the music inspired by Florists, Divers, Posties, Photographers, and lots more characters. Throughout the show, there will be multisensory, interactive activities and games specifically designed for those with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism.

We have a very special feature piece written by MAC’s inclusive house band “SWITCH” which has been arranged for our orchestra.

The Big Show is structured as a story, using common themes taught in school curriculums.

Join the Music Seekers,
Megan and Jim as they take us on a musical adventure.

Assisted by a live orchestra, they’ll explore fun music that they come across on their travels.

During the show, you’ll hear music you know and music you don’t. From rock & pop to classical & TV.

There are fun activities during the show, providing opportunities to actively participate.

We use all of the five senses so that there are multiple ways to take part.

Every accessible audience ticket includes the price of a carer, parent, or unpaid carer.

We have trained leaders and staff at all of our shows to ensure the comfort and safety of participants.

Show venues are fully accessible with facilities that make coming to our events easier for all.

Additional details

We will be running two performances of this show:

  • Friday 8th May, 11:00-11:50am. West Bromwich Town Hall, B70 8DY.

  • Sunday 10th May, 2:15-3:50pm. Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham, B12 9QH. (2:15pm start will include a short performance by SWITCH, MAC’s inclusive house band).

More information about each particular venue can be found on the ticket booking pages linked below. The following information applies to both shows.

We recognise that everyone's needs are different, so if you have any particular questions, please get in contact with us and we’ll be happy to help.

    • Each ticket gives access to one participant, and one parent/carer/unpaid carer. If a participant requires multiple carers, please get in touch with us and we can confirm free tickets for any additional carers.

    • We encourage participant curiosity and interest in the orchestra, however participants must not cross the red line at the front of the stage and enter the orchestra. This is for the safety of our orchestral members, performers, and the event participants.

    • During the show you are welcome to come and go as you please. There is a quiet space available separate from the main area, and a member of the Misfits Music team will be able to show you where this is should you require it.

    • We will be handing out a small wallet of props at the start. Megan and Jim will let you know when the best time to get these out is, but if you want to have a look beforehand you can! These will engage lots of different senses, and if you find any of them overwhelming, you can put them down. Don’t take part in anything you don’t want to.

    • This may be a loud environment. We recommend that those with auditory sensitivity bring ear protection for their comfort. There will be in-ear plugs available for free.

    • There may be several moments during the show where Megan and Jim, the Music Seekers, will come into the audience. If you would rather not be approached, please let them know and we will give you some space.

    • Fully accessible access to the main performance space and quiet room.

    • Plenty of parking close by (West Bromwich) and on site (MAC). Both venues have free parking for Blue Badge holders.

    • Accessible seating, including plenty of spaces for wheelchairs and other mobility aids.

    • Fully accessible toilets including changing places facilities at both venues.

    • Quiet spaces for those who may need some time out of the main performance.

    • Each participant will receive an accessible graphic concert guide which uses simple language and widgets.
