What Are Drum Rudiments?

Drum rudiments are the fundamental sticking patterns or techniques that form the basic building blocks of drumming, similar to musical scales for other instruments. They are specific sequences of drum strokes with inherent rhythms and dynamics that help drummers develop hand control, coordination, speed, and proficiency.

At the BDB, we’ve divided up our rudiments into three levels.

  • Lv. 1 Basics

  • Lv. 2 Development

  • Lv. 3 Expansion

Though not required to know before joining, it will be worth taking time to familiarise yourself with each rudiment so you understand the principles that the rudiments promote.
