Trusts, Foundations & Funders
Help more people experience the impact of making music together
Support from trusts, foundations and other funders helps Misfits Music create welcoming, high-quality opportunities for people across Birmingham and the Black Country to make music, develop their creativity and connect with others.
Our work is about more than learning notes or rehearsing for a performance. Making music together can create friendships, confidence, belonging and a shared sense of achievement.
Funding helps us remove barriers to participation, develop inclusive projects, create new opportunities in communities and give people the chance to grow creatively, whether they are picking up an instrument for the first time, returning to music after many years or developing skills that could lead to future experiences in the arts.
What your funding helps make possible
-
Our groups create regular opportunities for people to meet, make music together and build connections through a shared interest.
Music gives people something purposeful to work towards together, whether that is learning a new piece, developing as a group or preparing for a performance.
-
Enjoyable creative activity, regular participation and connection with others can all contribute to greater confidence, wellbeing and a sense of community.
By creating welcoming spaces where people can take part consistently and build relationships over time, our groups offer much more than a one-off musical experience.
-
We work to make high-quality music-making more accessible, including for people who may face financial, practical or other barriers to taking part.
We want people to be able to experience the enjoyment, creativity and connection that making music with others can bring, regardless of their background or previous musical experience.
-
Our projects are created through ongoing dialogue with the people who take part.
We regularly invite ideas, feedback from members through conversations, surveys and other opportunities. Participants help shape the music they play, suggest repertoire and influence how their groups develop.
Our music leaders also work responsively with each group, building musical experiences around the people taking part rather than participants having to fit a rigid model.
-
Music is innovatively arranged into numerous parts so that people with a wide range of abilities can participate meaningfully, build their confidence and progress at their own pace.
Inclusion does not come at the expense of participants' artistic ambition. People can take part at a level that feels achievable while still contributing to the same great sound.
-
Participants have opportunities to develop their musical skills, work with experienced music leaders, and take part in performances and creative workshops.
We want people not only to access music, but to experience the satisfaction of progressing, creating something together and feeling proud of what they make together.
-
We also create opportunities for emerging creatives to develop professional skills and gain paid experience. This helps us contribute not only to participation in the arts, but also to widening access to creative careers.
-
Funding enables us to sustain existing activity, develop new projects and respond to opportunities identified with the communities we work with.
We welcome conversations with trusts, foundations and other funders whose priorities align with areas such as community connection, wellbeing, inclusion, access to the arts, creative development and opportunities for people who are underrepresented within the sector.
We are also keen to build relationships with funders who share our belief that high-quality creative experiences should be accessible to more people.
