There are no auditions and no pressure to prove yourself. Just come along and make music together.

We open up opportunities to join at the beginning of each term. This is the point when everyone is picking up new music and you'll get the best experience because you'll be learning alongside the whole group.

Music is better when you make it together
There’s something special about being in a room full of people making music together.
At Misfits Music, our groups are about enjoying the music, developing your skills and being part of a welcoming community.
Make music together: Experience the energy and enjoyment that comes from playing and creating music with other people.
Meet people: Get to know people who share your love of music and become part of a friendly, supportive group.
Grow as a musician: Build your skills and confidence through regular playing, encouragement and support from experienced music leaders.
Be part of something bigger: As well as regular sessions, there are opportunities throughout the year to get involved in performances, workshops, gigs, concerts and special music projects.
What does a Misfits Music session feel like?
Relaxed, welcoming and full of music.
You don’t need to arrive knowing everything, and you don’t need to worry about being the best musician in the room.
Our experienced music leaders help people with different levels of experience make music together. Sessions are supportive and sociable, but most importantly, they’re about getting stuck in and enjoying playing.
Come on your own or come with someone you know. Either way, we’ll help you settle in.

What would you love to play?
Whether you’re drawn to the sound of an orchestra or would rather plug in and rock out, there are two ways to make music with us.
Orchestral Groups
Experience the thrill of playing in an orchestra.
Our inclusive orchestral groups bring together musicians with different levels of experience. Rather than simply dividing everyone by instrument, parts can be adapted to different abilities so more people can experience making orchestral music together.

Drumming Groups
Build your skills and feel the thrill of playing percussion together.
Our drumming groups bring drummers and percussionists together to develop technique, learn to read or improve music and experience playing as an ensemble.
Different levels of experience are welcome, with parts designed to help you develop while contributing to the same great performance.
Rock Collectives
Play the songs you love with a live band.
Our Rock Collectives bring singers and musicians together to play rock and pop music in a relaxed, supportive setting.
You don’t need to read traditional music notation. We use song sheets and chords so everyone can get involved.

Don’t have an instrument?
Don’t let that stop you from joining in. We may be able to help you source an instrument, and you can also enquire about having one provided through our instrument support scheme.
More than a regular music session
Joining a Misfits Music group can open the door to all sorts of musical experiences.
Throughout the year, members may have opportunities to take part in concerts and performances, rock gigs, workshops, special projects, community events and collaborative performances.
Some are small and local. Others bring together musicians from across our different groups.
They’re all another chance to make music, challenge yourself, share what you’ve been working on and enjoy being part of something together.

No. There are no auditions to join our regular groups.

You don’t need to worry about keeping up or proving yourself. Our music leaders are experienced in helping musicians with different abilities play together.

Absolutely. Many people do. Music gives you something in common from the moment you arrive and we’ll help you find your way in the group.

Please get in touch. We may be able to help you source a suitable instrument, and you could also apply to have an instrument provided through our instrument support scheme.
Availability will depend on the instrument and what we have available, so please contact us to talk through the options.

Our groups work on music together as the term progresses, so new members join at the beginning of term. That means you can learn alongside everyone else, settle into the group and get the most from your experience.
